In 1988 the UK government passed Section 28, the first law in over a century to roll back LGBTQ+ rights.
It banned the “promotion of homosexuality” in schools, libraries, the arts and local authorities until 2003 (2000 in Scotland). Don’t Say Gay tells the story of the law, the people it silenced and the campaign that brought it down.
A local authority shall not intentionally promote homosexuality or publish material with the intention of promoting homosexuality.
